Addressing Student Needs


Describe a need that you have observed in one or more of your high ability students. What evidence do you have that this need exists? What actions are you considering to address this need?

One need that I have seen is the ability of the work. Right now we have started a new unit and I am teaching them in "baby steps", so that no one is left behind. So they finish very quickly and have time to themselves. Starting monday I have made a paper of hard problems. So while the students are working on the worksheet and the higher level students finish first I will have one of these problems written on the board so they can try and work one it. A problem that I will go through but the higher level students will have some time to work on it.


Describe a need that you have observed in one or moe of your medium ability students. What evidence do you have that this need exists? What actions are you considering to address this need?

This is a lot tougher. With looking at my style of teaching it seems like I teach more towards this group of students. IT seems through with them I have to watch the way I deliver the information to them. Putting it into terms that they can understand and fallow.

The lower ability students need more one on one instruction and also time to do the work. They seem to understand the topics but the small key points they have trouble connecting and putting the big picture together. One stradagy I tried on friday was the day before I collected the homework and graded them. On Friday while the students were working on their lab I went and sat down with every students and went over the problem so I could address the problems that they were having.
